History of Mont Tremblant, Canada
Oct 13

Tags: Quebec, travel, vacation rentals
As the History of Mont Tremblant Canada will tell you, there hasn’t always been such a presence of luxury Mont Tremblant chalets. Its first inhabitants were the Algonquin American Indians who came to fish and hunt during the season and returned to their native Outaouais region by season’s end. The occupation of Mont Tremblant was followed by forest companies who made their way to the region and into the History of Mont Tremblant Canada in the early 1800s.
Between 1872 and 1890 Antoine Labelle, a French-Canadian Father successfully undertook a colonization movement with the vision of the region being occupied mainly by French-Canadian Roman Catholics. He later successfully lobbied to have a rail line built from Montreal with the vision that it would develop tourism; He was right! Today many tourists come year round to enjoy the scenic beauty of the region, and either stay in the resort or in luxury Mont Tremblant chalets. However, the word on the beauty of Mont Tremblant really started to spread in the early 20th century.
Another important figure for the history of Mont Tremblant Canada is Joseph Ryan who after falling in love with the scenic charm of the area, made it a point in his life to develop Mont Tremblant. By 1939, the fruits of his vision, the now famous Mont Trenblant Lodge, was officially inaugurated and on its path to success. Another fanatic of the region’s beauty, American broadcaster Lowel Thomas, helped fuel the resort’s success by making it a place where he would broadcast many of his shows.
The biggest break came in 1991 when the ski resort was purchased by Intrawest, a large real estate group, which invested hundreds of millions of dollars to create the gem that is Mont Tremblant. He made it become a place where luxury Mont Tremblant chalets would surround the resort.
Some of the changes included building the pedestrian village, adding new ski lifts and slopes, and rebuilding the Grand Manitou summit lodge. The success was immediate and Mont Tremblant became overnight a major ski resort destination in North America. You can see through the history of Mont Tremblant Canada how it took great vision and leadership for it to become what it is today!
