The Lower East Side refers to a neighborhood in the southeastern part of New York’s borough of Manhattan. The Manhattan Lower East Side is bordered by Allen Street, E. Houston, Essex Street, Canal Street, Eldridge Street, E. Broadway, and Grand Street. It is south of East Houston Street and west of the East River. Manhattan Lower East Side is one of New York’s oldest neighborhoods and has a reputation for being a lower-class worker neighborhood and often as a poor and ethnically diverse part of New York. Currently, the residents are predominantly Puerto Rican and Dominican and the neighborhood is under renovation. The neighborhood is perhaps best known for once being a center of Jewish culture and today, has many historic synagogues. The Manhattan Lower East Side is now home to several contemporary art galleries. As the neighborhood has gentrified and become safer at night, Manhattan Lower East Side, especially Clinton Street and Ludlow Street between Rivington Street and Stanton Street, has become a popular late-night spot. It is also home to many live music venues. It would make for a fun trip to stay in short term rentals in New York in Manhattan Lower East Side.

The Meatpacking District, also known as Gansevoort Market or MePa, is another neighborhood in the borough of Manhattan. It runs from north to south from West 14th Street to Gansevoort Street, and from east to west from the Hudson River to Hudson Street. Recently, the Meatpacking District in Manhattan was extended to West 16th Street and beyond Hudson Street. Back in 1900, Gansevoort Market was home to 250 slaughterhouses and packing plants.

In the 1980s, the Meatpacking District in Manhattan was a center for drug dealing and prostitution, mostly transsexuals. It was meagerly populated. The industrial area opened over a dozen sex clubs. In the late 1990s, the Meatpacking District Manhattan went through a transformation and opened high-end boutiques such as Diane von Furstenberg, Stella McCartney, Ed Hardy, Puma Black Store, Moschino and the Apple Store. Restaurants also started to come to life in the Meatpacking District Manhattan such as Pastis and Buddha Bar, as well as nightclubs targeted at hipsters and young professionals such as Tenjune, One, G-Spa, Cielo, APT, Level V, and Kiss and Fly. In 2003, only 35 of the slaughterhouses and packing plants still remained. Eventually, in 2004, New York magazine called the Meatpacking District Manhattan “New York’s most fashionable neighborhood”. Nowadays, this would be a great place to stay during a New York vacation. There are New York vacation rentals available for those wishing to save some money and stay in a high-end district.
