In Premium-economy, one of many travel tips gaining popularity, travelers get much more space and comfort than in economy, but a bit less than in business class. Automatic Flight Changes - Smart Travel Tip

Feb 05

Major airlines are making automatic flight changes like cutting flights, schedules and destinations up to 15%. Automatic flight changes include switching flights from one time to another or from non-stops to two stops. Service to certain airports, even major airports, will be dropped all together.

When flights have been discontinued, airlines will automatically re-book passengers onto new flights. These automatic flight changes may result in different departure times or landing in the next closest airport that they do still service. Unfortunately, after these automatic flight changes are made, not all airlines get the notice of changes to the passenger.

A smart travel tip is to be proactive and call your airline to reconfirm your reservation and make sure no automatic flight changes were made. Unexpected time changes may deduct a vacation day or add an extra night at your vacation rental. Take this smart travel tip and continue to check on your reservation until the time of your departure.

How to Get Upgrades When Traveling - Travel News

Dec 01

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

Flight upgrades are very sought-after nowadays, especially now that airline companies have decreased the number of routes in order to reduce their costs. However, getting flight upgrades has become extremely difficult. An informal survey was conducted among travelers to gather helpful travel tips on how to receive upgrades and fly to London, Hawaii or Miami in business class. It is recommended that travelers check their airline’s terms and conditions to learn about how they award upgrades. It is important to understand if your airline belongs to a network of airlines. If they do, you could use miles that were earned for one airline on another airline of the network, also sometimes known as an “alliance.”

Loyalty plays a role. Try to fly with the same company as much as possible. Airlines rank you in different programs. The higher you rank, the easier or less difficult it is to get upgrades. For example, travelers with a platinum card have priority over travelers with the gold card.

  • Always present your loyalty cards when checking in and/or purchasing your ticket.
  • Always ask politely and kindly at the airport. Sometimes the staff needs to upgrade fliers to resolve oversold ticket conditions in the economy class. Usually, airline companies reward their loyal customers first, even when offering free upgrades.
  • When loyal travelers are being considered, those who pay the highest rates have priority for upgradable tickets.
  • Being elegantly dressed when requesting an upgrade will improve your chances of receiving one.
  • Airlines usually upgrade people when the flight is full or in an oversold situation.
  • Traveling with kids reduces your chances of being upgraded.
  • In most cases, upgrades are available the day you fly. You may pay for the upgrade for a fraction of the price you would pay for the premium ticket.

Always ask. You have nothing to lose!
