Barcelona’s capital, Catalonia, is an autonomous province of Spain. The people of Catalonia hold on tightly to their culture, their traditions and their language.

Madrid’s quiet little street called Calle Conde Duque is a charming border between the hectic 17th-century center and slightly more open and organized 19th-century districts.
More recently, despite its neighboring chaos, the street has become a place of international design and a serene haven of chic boutiques, welcoming cafes and al fresco restaurants. Some would compare Calle Conde Duque with Marais in Paris (Paris vacation rentals) or SoHo in New York (New York vacation rentals) when they first started.
The two neighborhoods were born of just a few small, independent fashion boutiques. Conde Duque offers stores such as Mint Marche which sells French and Scandinavian designs for women; Sportivo which sells men’s sportswear; Mini which offers suits and more business-like men’s clothes; Duke which sells sneakers; Clean which sells French brands such as A.P.C.; Radio City, a small record store that sells vintage and independent vinyl LPs and CDs; and Blanca Berlin Galeria, a gallery with works of Spanish, Mexican, Brazilian, American and Korean photographers.
On the western part of the street, the Cuartel del Conde Duque can be found. This was formerly military barracks that were built between 1717 and 1730. In the 1980s, it became known as Centro Cultural Conde Duque and had 2 free museums, several libraries and city archives. The neighborhood continues to improve along with the cultural center. There are also places to eat or drink on Conde Duque such as Toma, La Herradura Mexican restaurant and El Jardin Secreto where you can get a mixed drink and dessert. Spain is a wonderful destination with many sights and attractions throughout, but if you have been to Madrid’s Palacio Real recently, you may think part of a very important attraction in Spain has gone missing. The Royal Armory at the Palacio is one of the richest and most important collections of arms in the world and draws visitors from around the world. The fact of the matter is, a portion of the arms is not missing, but has been lent to the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, a testament to just how impressive the collection is. “The Art of Power: Royal Armor and Portraits of Imperial Spain” will be on display in Washington through November 1st.
Do not worry if you have already booked your Spain vacation rentals and the Armory was at the top of your list, the museum only borrowed a portion of the collection, the vast majority is still safely guarded in Madrid.
