CBP enforces hundreds of laws for 40 other government agencies. These agencies require that unsafe items not be allowed into the United States. CBP officers are at ports of entry and are responsible for protecting America from threats. The CBP is expected to prevent products that would injure community health, public safety, American workers, children, domestic plants and domestic animals from entering the United States.

If you are planning a trip abroad and you plan to bring something back into the United States upon your return, you may want to contact CBP to make sure none of those items are prohibited or restricted. If you are a foreigner planning a visit and stay in vacation rentals in the United States, the same rules apply. Prohibited items, which are forbidden by law to enter the United States, include unsafe cars, dangerous toys, and illegal substances.
