Getting from New York City Airports to the city itself is not as complicated as it might seem.
Calling Air-Ride ( 800/247-7433) will provide you with information on bus and shuttle services at any time. Another great site for information is the following: www.panynj.gov/airports . When your plane lands and you are the baggage claim level, look out for Ground Transportation Counters which can be of great assistance.
From JFK to midtown in car or taxi, expect it to take 45 to 60 min for the trip. From LaGuardia, expect it to take about 20 to 35 minutes. And from Newark, expect a 35 to 50 minutes car ride. When it comes to subways, it is not a recommended way to get to and from New York City airports because the hassles outweigh the practicalities. Airtrain lines are available though, for the few who prefer this option.
Taxis from JFK to Manhattan will cost you a flat rate of 45 dollars, on top of tolls and tips. From LaGuardia, it will cost you anywhere from $24 to $28 dollars, without counting tips and tolls.
You might want to consider Private buses and shuttles which are comfortable and less expensive than taxis, when trying to reach New York City airports. The blue Supper Shuttle vans will pick you up from your home or your New York vacation rental and drop you off at any of the three airports. Expect to pay from $13 to $22 per person.
