Practice Adjusting
Find out the time change before you go and start taking steps to adjust starting about a week before you leave. Start going to bed about half-hour earlier or later and work your way up. Doing half of the work before you get there will save you from having to make such a huge adjustment.
Sleep on the Plane
Take a nap on the plane during the first half of the flight. Stay awake during the second half of the flight. Do not use alcohol to help you sleep. It can cause you to swell, dehydrate or get constipated.
Bring a Pillow
As uncomfortable as it may be sleep on an airplane, a bean bag neck pillow and eye mask will certainly help. Wear comfortable clothing and drink plenty of water and chamomile tea. If the plane isn’t full, try to find some extra seats to lie down on.

Try to select a low-sodium, vegetarian meal. If that is not possible, bring your own food aboard. Carbohydrates like pasta will slow you down and make you tired. Chicken and vegetables will feed your system and give you energy with their protein.
