Description:
Our unit at the Makaha Beach Cabanas is on the third floor and is direct oceanfront. The lanai is off the bedroom so you fall asleep and wake up to the sounds of the ocean. Our apartment fronts on Turtle Bay, a nesting area for turtles and one of the more picturesque beaches you will find anywhere in the islands. Off the bedroom Lanai are great kayaking, fishing, swimming, snorkeling and surfing, or you can simply melt in the powder white sand. You can also lounge in bed and watch the sunsets, and whales (in season). From the living room you can see the sunrise over the majestic Waianae Mountain Range, which is covered in hiking trails and steeped in Hawaiian legend. Maui the sun God and his grandmother Hina dwelt in Kane-ana (Kane's cave) in Waianae, and it was here that Maui learned the secrets of fire.
For the more contemporary among you there is an 18-hole golf course and Marina within a mile. Ten miles down Farington Highway is Hawaii?s newest and largest water park, Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park. You will also find all the name brands we have become accustomed to--Marriott, Safeway, Longs, Starbucks etc. We prefer Waianae and Makaha's Goldenhouse Restaurant, Tamura Superette, the Aloha 'Aina Cafe and the many other quaint restaurants and stores nearby. Neighboring Makaha Beach is world renowned as a surfing beach, and has hosted many international surfing competitions. Waianae and Makaha are located on the Leeward side of Oahu, the sunniest part of the island known for both its great beach weather as well as for some of the best fishing in Oahu. You will find this area to be distinctly un-touristy---the beach in front of you will seldom have more that twenty people on it, and occasionally you will see locals net fish for dinner. Our unit is available for stays of one month or longer. Those who take the time will be rewarded with a taste of real Hawaii---a unique experience.
