Vacation Rentals & Contract Languages - Holiday Rentals
Vacationers that rent vacation rentals in a country other than their own should most likely expect to have to sign a rental contract written in the local language. A French holiday rentals property will probably have a contract written in French and vacation rentals in Spain will have a contract written in Spanish. A few exceptions are:
- When a large holiday rentals agency is involved, they might offer a vacation rentals contract in different languages. Sometimes, they insist that renters sign a contract written in the local language and will provide a translated version for their records.
- When a holiday rentals property is located in an area that mainly attracts foreign clients, owners and agents have no choice but to provide contracts in other languages.
- When vacation rentals are offered in countries such as Greece, Egypt, Israel or Thailand (which have a different alphabet), most contracts will be in English or other languages.
The language of the contract is important as far as the applicable law. Local courts will not be able to handle foreign contracts. This is why owners and managers insist that the signed contract be in the local language.
